Accordingly, with the aim of understanding the significance of olive cultivation and clarifying how each of the production systems practised in line with sustainability principles operates, the Amélia de Mello Foundation decided to invite AGRO.GES to produce a book dedicated to this topic. The book is organised into four main chapters. The first chapter provides an overview and history of olive cultivation worldwide, particularly with regard to geographical location, scale, production, consumption and international trade. The second chapter examines olive cultivation in Portugal in greater detail. The third chapter focuses on the main production systems, highlighting traditional olive groves, vase olive groves and hedgerow olive groves.
